Dive into the exhilarating world of John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, an action-packed movie that earns an ‘A+’ from ‘The Movie Grader.’ Keanu Reeves brings an air of intensity that makes you fear he might unleash fury for merely looking his way. This persona, built since the franchise’s debut in 2014, shines even brighter in this third installment, where Wick faces a global manhunt following a hefty bounty placed on him. Truly, the film’s Latin subtitle, “Parabellum”, which translates to “prepare for war,” has never been more apt.
John Wick 3 tops the franchise with non-stop action from start to finish within a 131-minute run-time that feels fleeting, thanks to the relentless on-screen action. From motorcycle and horse chases to intense hand-to-hand combat featuring an impressive arsenal of knives and bullets, this movie packs a punch.
Dialogue is sparse for John Wick, whose encounters often descend into instantaneous fights, all vying for the coveted $14 million bounty. The story is primarily driven by the conversations of The Adjudicator (Asia Kate Dillon), Winston (Ian McShane), and Bowery King (Laurence Fishburne). Halle Berry’s Sofia makes a memorable impact with her riveting action scene, despite a brief 25-minute appearance.
What sets this film apart is the top-tier fight choreography. Far from being a simple brawler, the creators orchestrated a spectacle of creatively utilized objects and varying fighting scenes that keep you hooked. But be warned, it’s graphically violent and might be unsettling for some.
Its stellar cinematography and lighting and outstanding choreography could make John Wick 3 an Oscar contender. The fights are often presented without cuts, ensuring a seamless flow of action as the camera expertly weaves in and out of rooms. The lighting is breathtaking, with cool pastel-like neons contrasting the dark New York City backdrop, creating an atmosphere of hope amidst lethal chaos.
Parabellum excels in sound, too, enhancing the viewing experience. The theater tuned up to 11, makes you feel every bullet that hits, amplifying the thrill. You needn’t have watched the first two films to enjoy this one, know that Wick is wanted. So grab your friends and rush to the theater for this ‘wicked’ good time!
