The Journal of Therapeutic and Applied Geek and Gaming Culture (TAGGC) is a new academic journal for professionals studying the intersections of Geek and Gaming cultures and mental health to share their work.
The journal seeks to expand research affiliated with the Geek Therapy® model and other, similar models in ways that are accessible to academic and non-academic audiences alike. The journal plans to prioritize academic integrity as a fully blind, peer-reviewed academic journal while also remaining invested in diverse perspectives from a wide range of professions for whom the study of Geek and Gaming cultures and mental health are relevant. For this reason, submissions are open to anyone and are accepted on a rolling basis for twice-yearly publication.
Topics of interest should address the use of Geek and Gaming culture in treatment, community building, and education. Submissions should address practical applications and not media analysis. Topics of interest may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Video games for physical education
- Tabletop roleplay games (TTRPG) in therapy
- Community building through fandoms
- Fandoms as pedagogy
- Identity exploration through Geek and Gaming culture
- Individual and/or community resilience building through media
- Case studies using Geek or Gaming culture
