Panel: Draw Me Like One of Your Disney Girls
Friday, July 25
5:00 PM – 6:00 PM
Room 11, San Diego Convention Center

If you’re looking to blend your love of animation, figure drawing, and queer-led artistry, Draw Me Like One of Your Disney Girls is a must-attend event at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con.

This live model drawing workshop is more than just a panel—it’s an immersive, collaborative experience. Moderated by Lucy Smith, a sapphic, disabled business owner and founder of Library After Dark Presents, this event brings together top-tier talent in animation and fine arts for a one-of-a-kind creative showcase.

Behind the Easel: Artists and Models in Conversation

Attendees will watch as models Lucy Smith and Kia Watson pose live for:

  • Lisa Dosson – Lead storyboard artist for Dan Harmon’s Krapopolis
  • Orpheus Collar – Storyboard artist for Disney’s Percy Jackson and the Olympians
  • Jose Pimienta – Comic book artist and story artist for Disney and Random House

As the pencil hits the paper, the conversation will flow. The panel will include a discussion about the intersection of figure modeling, animation, and navigating the industry’s challenges—from representation to access, from technique to inspiration.

This isn’t just about what’s being drawn—it’s about who gets to be seen and celebrated.

A Space for Inclusion and Imagination

Lucy brings over 25 years of combined experience in the arts, entertainment, and modeling industries. With degrees in both Illustration and Theatre, she has collaborated with studios like Disney, DreamWorks, and Nickelodeon, as well as institutions like CalArts and ArtCenter. Through Library After Dark Presents and Colorful Kingdom Entertainment, she curates body-positive events, queer-affirming, and rooted in education and empowerment.

More Art After Dark

Lucy is also organizing a tentative live costumed model drawing event in the Gaslamp District at a new taproom. This evening session (date TBD: Thursday, Friday, or Saturday) will bring together fans, artists, and curious con-goers for a casual sketching session in a relaxed environment. Details will be announced soon, so keep your sketchbooks ready!

Come Say Hello

Whether you’re a seasoned animator, an art school grad, or someone who just loves to draw, this panel welcomes all levels and identities. Lucy is open to interviews and encourages attendees to introduce themselves or approach the panelists.

Bring your sketchpad, your curiosity, and your open mind. Join Lucy Smith and her talented collaborators in Room 11 on Friday at 5:00 PM for a truly inspiring hour of live art and honest conversation.
