Shark Moves and Shark Mayhem: Kinga Phillips Leads the Charge This Shark Week

Author: Xavier Scudder

Whether she’s diving with apex predators or judging underwater dance routines, Kinga Phillips brings curiosity, courage, and charisma to everything she does. And this Shark Week is no exception. We had a chance to chat with Kinga about her role in three new specials airing on Discovery, and her passion for storytelling, shark conservation, and staying calm under pressure was as inspiring as ever.

Dancing with Sharks

Dancing with Sharks Premieres Sunday, July 20 at 8PM ET/PT on Discovery
Hosted by Emmy® Award-winner Tom Bergeron, this one-of-a-kind competition pairs top divers with real sharks for a choreographed underwater spectacle. Kinga serves as one of the judges, watching shark handlers “dance” alongside hammerheads, tiger sharks, and more. “It’s such a shark-positive show,” she told us. “And honestly? These performers are doing routines I can’t even do on land.”

She credits the divers’ trust, experience, and presence for their success, adding that being with sharks actually centers her. “I’m calmer in the water with a tiger shark charging me than I am when someone cuts me off in traffic,” she said. “You’re so focused, there’s no room for panic.”

Attack of the Devil Shark

Attack of the Devil Shark Premieres Saturday, July 26 at 8PM ET/PT on Discovery
When a rogue tiger shark kills twice in the waters of St. Martin, locals fear a legend has returned: the Devil Shark. Kinga joins a team on a dangerous mission to identify the predator and investigate whether natural forces might be influencing a new wave of shark aggression.

Kinga left us with one last gem of advice: if a shark wanted to impress another with dance moves? “Shake that caudal fin. Get fancy!”

Whether you’re here for the science, the spectacle, or the conservation, Kinga Phillips is your Shark Week MVP. Don’t miss any of her appearances this week on Discovery!
