At San Diego Comic-Con, Cartoon Network, HBO Max, and Lion Forge Entertainment unveiled a major next chapter for their breakout animated series Iyanu. The franchise is expanding with its first feature-length animated film, Iyanu: The Age of Wonders, set to premiere Saturday, August 30, 2025, at 9:30 a.m. ET/PT. Alongside this announcement, fans were treated to the film’s official teaser trailer, poster, and early images from the upcoming Season 2.
The movie acts as a prequel, transporting viewers back 500 years before Iyanu’s rise to the magical era of Yorubaland. When Meje, the living embodiment of the seven deadly sins, threatens the land, young warriors Dara and Ishe must rally the mythical Divine Ones to prevent an age of darkness.

Featuring an all-African voice cast—including Shaffy Bello, Ike Ononye, Sisan Victor-Woko, and Adesua Etomi-Wellington—the film is co-written by series story editor Brandon Easton and creator/showrunner Roye Okupe, who also directs the project.
Fans were also given a first look at Iyanu Season 2, coming in 2026. The new season follows Iyanu as she faces a mysterious new threat and grapples with rising tensions across Yorubaland. With ancient forces awakening, the stakes are higher than ever.

The Iyanu universe is based on Iyanu: Child of Wonder, the graphic novel by Roye Okupe, published by YouNeek Studios and Dark Horse Comics. It continues to break ground with its authentic African storytelling, creative leadership, and global resonance.
