Joseph Illidge Supports a New Home for Comics in Compton
PORTLAND, OR (OCTOBER 13, 2026) — Illuminous, the intellectual property and creative services company led by comics writer, editor, and creative executive Joseph Illidge, has announced its sponsorship of the inaugural Compton Comics Expo, founded by Ray-Anthony Height.
The event takes place Saturday, October 24, 2026, at Compton College, 1111 E. Artesia Blvd., Compton, California. Presented by Studio Skye Tiger in conjunction with the Compton 125 Historical Society, the expo brings comics, creators, and fans together in a celebration rooted in Compton’s creative community.
Through its sponsorship, Illuminous supports the Black comics community and beyond, helping establish a gathering place for creators and fans. The announcement connects that support to Illidge’s work developing original stories and creating opportunities for the people behind them.
“Most of the world has finally caught up to the coolness and influence of comic books, but it was always within the secret lifeblood of cities like Compton,” said Illidge. “The birth of Compton Comics Expo under the leadership of Ray-Anthony Height, one of the industry’s best ambassadors, is something that compelled me to provide meaningful support through my company, Illuminous.”
Illidge added that he looks forward to seeing future comics creators whose origin stories connect to the first Compton Comics Expo.

Hours: 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.; VIP early access begins at 10 a.m.
Admission: Free general admission.
