LOS ANGELES, CA (April 19, 2024) – BOOM! Studios today announced HEX VETS: THE RIVER GUARDIAN SC, a brand new middle grade magical adventure and the inspiration behind the Nickelodeon animated series, HexVets and Magic Pets! Creator Sam Davies (Stutterhug) along with cartoonist Lisa Moore (Adventure Time, Garfield) continue the witchy misadventures of Nan and Clarion,  and their close-knit practice of helping animals…by trying to be the best veterinarian witches they can!

A seemingly normal day at the clinic turns strange during a visit from a magical creature making wild prophecies–when he usually just predicts the weather, helps find lost household items and announces the arrival of the River Guardian’s otter messengers!

Nan and Clarion discover something in the water is making river creatures, both magical and normal, behave in odd ways: beavers building elaborate wood houses teetering on the edge of collapse, kelpies casting aside their magical disguises when trying lure people to the water, and ice swans making ear-piercing mating calls that freeze chunks of water solid–all similar to the creature at the clinic. The creature’s owner may have something to do with this whimsical madness, so Nan and Clarion must quickly work together to brew a solution and set things right!

“I’m so happy to have finally got giant magical otters into a comic,” said Sam Davies. “What story wouldn’t be improved by giant magical otters?? And I’m very grateful to have Lisa onboard as an inker for book 3, otherwise I’m not sure the project could have got done!”

HEX VETS: THE RIVER GUARDIAN SC will be available in comic shops September 18, 2024 and available in bookstores everywhere September 24, 2024. Digital copies can be purchased from content providers, including Kindle, iBooks, and Google Play.
